A few questions

6877 Views 148 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  Jim Selman
I am surprised that an announcement of a change of management comes in a blocked thread allowing no questions, so here are a couple of things I would like to know?
1. Is admin steve still involved?
2. If not what is happening about supporting member status and payments?
3. Do verticalscope intend maintaining this as a closed forum?
4. If not, will they clear the historical posting archive to respect the rights of members who joined and posted on a closed forum in good faith, and probably don't want their thoughts and photos on the open web?
If any other members want to add questions here, please keep posts respectful. I would like answers to my reasonable questions, so don't want this thread closed.

I'll be interested to see how the new owners respond to question #4 in Michael's list.
I'll be seeking legal advice whether the new owners answer it or not.

Was not my intention for the announcement to be locked. Steve originally posted it that way, I had not noticed immediately.

1. Steve is as involved as he wants to be. You may have to ask him but I suspect he is not interested in managing the technical end of the site anymore.

2. Your current supporting membership status will remain the same and will expire at the time it was scheduled to. If you had it set to auto renew you likely will see an email that says your subscription has been cancelled. This only means the auto renewal is cancelled and the wording in the email is PayPal's.

3. For now unless I am told otherwise. I can gather more info and report back.

4. This would be related to 3. so I don't have an answer for you in this moment.

You are asking me about this or stating this as a current fact?
-Philip
As a current fact Philip. Someone else spotted it a while back.
Walt...er..... don't use tapatalk then. That sounds like an issue of the platform people use, not the TLF. Personally I use a laptop.
Phil Qs 3 and 4 will need definitive answers if people are to have the confidence to keep posting on the basis that they have.
I joined a closed forum. I have never contributed to an open one.................................I never will..........................
As a current fact Philip. Someone else spotted it a while back.
Cheers for the clarification. Tapatalk is a 3rd party app so sort of plays by its own rules in that respect.
-Philip
Perhaps that is the case. It could just be a coincidence although it only seemed to be an issue after Steve made a significant amount of our posts public without our knowledge a while back. Perhaps someone more tech savvy than myself or Michael could shed some more light on the matter.
FFS if this wakes TLF up its a sad day. What a load of cock and balls.:wtcwackit::wtcwackit::wtcwackit::wtcwackit::wtcwackit:
Now Now Ray. Respectful please. I've always been awake, but I think the main reasons this forum went to sleep about the middle of may were mainly to do with the two issues I have raised in Q3/4.
Steve rethought his position on those points, and the forum is currently closed, but, with new owners?.....................
Thought you'd understand where I was coming from here. After all you did leave the forum recently over concerns that info you had posted was being accessed and used by lurkers in your area of......the world.
If this forum goes open, the lurkers could number........7 billion.
If they all turn up down on those low tide reefs...... It will get a bit crowded.
Strange that anyone would know my issue with the TLF.it was a fine fourm and I gave some reports and comments to help when I could. But for me now I feel that this thread has stired up a little bit of bull shit.Witch I'm happy to play along with till about Monday afternoon
I'd PM you Ray, but you now restrict who can do that, or those who can easily find your past threads/posts, (whether as Ray Horgan, or Rayh.) Does this indicate that you may also have personal issues with lurkers the site? If so......probably not "cock and balls" or "bullshit" after all.......but serious concerns that it would be nice to be reassured over by the new management going forward.

This is the 4th owner since I joined in 2015. People seem initially keen to buy us. I suspect that's mainly because of that market leading domain name, which would always get lots of interest.
I can only see one way that someone is actually going to maximise return on their investment though......
No one can stop them opening this forum up. (Probably the only way there is going to be a return to increased activity on here anyway), but if they do, I will want my historical posts protected.

I wonder whether, if, the new owners do decide to open the forum up, they could set up the site so new visitors could only access the archive from the date it changed. If this was the case, it would allow the posts on the current closed forum to only be seen by members who joined the forum on that basis. That would be reassuring.............
Other options?
1. Delete individuals posts on request. That will create a very disjointed archive.
2. Delete the whole archive. That would be a sad day.
3. Individuals choose to go down your route of restricting access to profile pages. Your info can still be found though, just not easily.
.......will an open forum have that function though?.......

Issues? Bullshit? I am preferring to be proactive with new owners, rather than spitting the dummy if and when they make changes that impact on my levels of privacy..

Cheers Paul.
'course those rules assume an ongoing closed forum, which is what you and I signed up for. I'm cool with that as long as the forum stays closed.
If the forum changes to an open one though, then my contract with the owners will have changed, and on that basis I will not accept my posts being available to all.......
Exactly. I signed up in 2010 to a closed forum. I didn't agree to that forum being opened up in 2017.

Nearly half the forum is currently available to read without being logged in. We have so far made no changes other than the site being migrated to our network of servers. I don't personally have an answer what will happen moving forward but will make sure you are all the first to know as soon as I do.
-Philip
Philip, are you saying that the forum is already "open"?
You're listed as Admin but you don't know where the forum is headed or what the plans for it are? If you don't know, then who does?
Is Admin Steve still in charge or you?
If the forum is, or is soon to be, open to anyone could you please remove my account, my posts and my pictures from the site?
I joined in 2010 when it was stated that it was a closed forum. I didn't sign up to the forum, and all my input, being made available to all and sundry in 2017.
The forum rules in 2010, which I signed up to, state that account and post removal will be honoured only with formal legal council. What constitutes formal legal council?

I would be happy to receive your answers to my questions on this thread but if you would prefer to send them by PM that would be fine.
If you log out you can see exactly what is visible to the public. This is exactly how the site came to use before Steve sold it. When I have a clear answer for your questions I will let you know.
