Decided to nip out for an hour or two on the boat this morning over high. Wabbit made the early start too.

Not much to shout about generally, but on one drift between two reefs I felt a tap on a Savagear Sandeel and lifted gently into a fish. A few headshakes made me think I had a small bass but it didn't run at all (I even backed off the drag) so I was clueless until this little fella surfaced. Eyes bigger than its belly I think.

This is the first codling I have caught in Jersey!

A few weeks earlier and it would have been a great PB LOL :-D.

A result of "global cooling" maybe.

Are cod caught around Jersey in the Winter by bait anglers??

I once caught one in October Nigel, fishing for Red Mullet, managed a very skanky looking 3lber. I dont think they are a targetable species though. I'd love it if they were, would certainly pass the time.

I wish some of those cod had followed me home Alex.

We used to get a few small coalfish here too when I was a kid, now if they found their way down here I'd fish for little else.....
