Well, a few have been caught in early April by the guys.
However, NB:

Ika of approx 1.5 kg was clearly seen today in bright light, gin clear water during the dropping tide on the NE coast (NE wind). Bold as brass and, the first one I have ever seen freeswimming in daylight.

Saying this, we are looking now.

Last year at about this time, there were definitely at least 3 large squid freeswimming over the rocks at the side of St Caths slip. These were spotted during the day, and caught the same evening by the chap who'd spotted them earlier. They were all large, at least 2 feet in length.
