Ballrag floats - does anyone use them for redgills, soft plastics etc??

How do you rig them?? There is a loop at one end of the float & two swivels at the other. Confused.com

I used the Fox ones a few years back when floater fishing. They are basically a more streamlined inline bubble float and they cast really well on a barbel rod. Could be well worth a try on your lure rod.

They wont cast any distance. They're feather light, and you cant load them with anything. look at the fox bolt bubbles. different sizes of inline super bubble floats. no swivels, can fill them with water. All these things will need stopping on the line somehow though.
Ah ha ~ I thought they could be part-filled with water Michael but those FOX bolt bubbles look to be ideal.
A float stop either side could work.

Cheers
Steve
What about wooden casting eggs like the ones ( i made) i put up on here a while back (cant find the page) but i have put flys, small redgills over 100yds. with 12ft of fluro between the fly and eggs

They work just as well Mark , I save mine for in among the boulders ( ideal for the rough stuff) ;)
I've just found this about the rigging & action of the Bulrag float.

The Bulrag is a controller style float designer for targeting fish feeding on or near the surface.
It can be used in a number of ways -

Washing line
Tie the Bulrag to the end of the line and have a couple of hooks above it. These can either be baited with strips of fish or with small lures. You then cast out and keep a tight line whilst the float drifts around in the current. this can be a deadly tactic for garfish but also picks up bass and other species when they are driving fry to the surface.

In-line
Attach your mainline to the fixed ring and a 3' to 5' trace to one of the swivels. Put the lure of your choice on the end of the trace and just cast out and slowly retrieve.

'Wobbly' controller
by fixing the trace to one swivel and your mainline to the other swivel it causes the Bulrag to wobble from side to side on the retrieve. This creates a disturbance which can help to draw fish towards the lure.

Good post Nige ,

This is why a Jiff Lemon Float can be deadly on certain nights , the Bass are attracted to the Wake of the Lemon on the surface more than the presence of the lure , the lure comes into play afterwards . My theory is that they think it's another Bass feeding on the surface .
Gary, have you had any recent catches on the Jiff ?

Edit : Sorry just saw the one in your gallery
