Friend of mine has just got back from a Salmon fishing trip. The guy he was sharing a cabin with had a couple of drinks over the legal driving limit & got caught.
He got a £6000 fine & banned from ever driving in Norway again. They don't mess about so dont take the chance.
He can just count himself very lucky that he wasn’t a Norwegian as a alcohol content above 0.8 in his blood would have qualified him to a 21-day automatic jail sentence, plus a fine and three years without a driving licence.
With alcohol levels in the blood less than 0.8 you avoid jail but the fine can be as much as two months gross salary.
As a non Norwegian resident you again avoid the jail sentence, that is if you haven’t caused an accident and killed somebody, but the fine is then very much higher, which is exactly what happened to your friend.
