Looking to get in some larger softies 8" plus, with matching leadheads for upto 18ft depths. Any recommendations would be great

hi mike, i tend to use the 9" sluggo's with nail weight's mainly, don't like to much jig head weight.

kev
Kev, nails? sorry SP novice. Have mentioned to Paul, looking for weighted and un-weighted options
Lunker city nail weights Mike.

MrFish sells them, or did. I reckon me and Kev got a load, not sure
on remaining stock. 2 sizes. You might only need the bigger size for 9"

Weighted stuff ? hmm, 18ft deep....

There was a time I would have suggested heavy heads for 18ft but a few years
of recieving 75% of my hits on the drop would now suggest a 7g thru 20g range
and adjust the jig head 'shape' and line diameter to adjust the fall rate.

Paul will have some idea's too.

Mike,

If you are looking for eel patterns then you might try the Mother Worm or Mother Eel.

The above are rigged for vertical fishing from the boat (around 50g leadheads).

As discussed your challenge will be to get a bigger SP out there on a leadhead light enough to work sensitively in 18ft of water.

Thx Paul, a challenge it will be im sure. I still have a hyper sensitive gravity worm to throw around.

This is what I meant, although Im sure there called one up or something, acquired in Jersey for last years festival, even had them pre-rigged and with rattles inserted by Mick.

Yup that's a One Up Shad Mike. I like them too. They're not that big but they cast quite nicely with a Decoy Carolina Fixe or Decoy Texas Power. The lure body is about spot on consistency-wise IMO.

Cheers

Paul
They are quite big Paul, Mike has the 6inch and we were using them in the Jersey Bass fest with huge jigheads, like 40g or so.
Maybe 6" is big to you Mick.

Seriously, Mike was looking for 12" yesterday (oops).

He is just greedy.....
I'll take a look when im over next, what i meant was, the one up is the largest I have at the mo. Has anyone used a larger softie from the shore?
Oh my the ann summers special.................... :muttley:
I'd laugh if you got pulled at Jersey Customs with one of those in your bag Mike.

Looks like it would smart enough not to need an added stinger.

BTW nice hands Mick.
Hahahaha thats the boyo! Dougs hands...hahaha ooh it hurts...

Anyhoo, back on topic, what about a larger floater....never mind forget it!

I bought some big white ones from Mick last year. I only used them a couple of times, the SP alone must weigh 1oz and I had a 40g jig head on it. Didn't have a rod suited to casting that much weight. I do now though, so will give them another go along with some others later in the year.
