Just wondered what others prefer as a main line? I know one very good Perch lure angler only used f/c right through in 20lb, preferring it to braid. Been new I'm just looking for some answers really?

Does anyone fish bigger rivers like the Trent, Wye, Thames for perch on plastics, and if so do you use the Ned Rig at all?

I don't fish freshwater but when I lure fish for Bass I use 20lb braid and a fluorocarbon leader of about 3 foot. Use a double uni knot to connect the two lines together. Hope that helps.
Saltwater and freshwater predator fishing uses the same setup but a bit heavier line unless you're fishing for pike of course then it will be the same with an added wire trace instead of a fluorocarbon leader. Use a palomar knot to tie the braid to the wire leader.

My Perch setup is 8lb braid with an 8lb flurocarbon leader of about 2 - 3ft tied using an FG knot down to a lure clip.
This set up has even landed double figure Pike!

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I know some people who like braided lines because they feel like they're more secure and less likely to break, but I also know people who prefer fluorocarbon because they can be easier to handle and don't absorb water or debris as easily.

I would say that if you're using a braided line, make sure that the friction on the line is low, so it doesn't slip out of place too easily; if you're using fluorocarbon, make sure that there are no sharp edges on it where it could cut into your hands or fingers when working with it. You should check out this fishing line review for a better choice.
