I’m probably giving away far too many of my little secrets, but here you go.

Rakuten is a massive Japanese internet based shopping market (a bit like Amazon) with millions of customers, more than 60 million items and more than 30 thousands vendors, many of them selling fishing tackle. For a long time they were completely unwilling to organise shipping to outside Japan but a while ago they set up country specific websites, which includes UK.

Take a good look, but hold on to your credit cards guys

I buy loads from Japan but was unaware of that UK site.

I do have an Amazon.jp account but alot of gems aren't available outside Japan.

I'll seriously check this site out. Thanks.

had a view PMs concerning that rakuten Shop and how to search. So what might be of interest to many around here to buy there?

Here as eg I searched for YGK:

http://search.borderless.rakuten.com...&k=ygk&x=0&y=0

here is reduced to only sporting goods

http://search.borderless.rakuten.com...tl=101070&l=en

here its only goods in stock and direct shipping to germany (sorry, you can change that to UK in using Vidars link)

http://search.borderless.rakuten.com...alizeSelectBox

and here additionally incl. shops that are only shipping via forwarding service (look for tenso.com...)

http://search.borderless.rakuten.com...2&fs=1&pf=&pt=

hope I were able to bring you the rakuten possibilities a bit closer. Its like amazon and Vidar Thomasson used it already.
I will try the next days this tenso.com forwarding thing and make a thread on that later.

Tight lines
Thomas

PS hope I did not break any disclaimer rules here?

Cheers
Thomas

Hi Vidar,

thanks for shearing this! Keeps me warm during this bass less winternights....
What a big shop.

Just wondering.
If I buy from the Japan Plat store, most of the time I don;t have to pay extra taxes at my door.
They (plat) don't ship there goods with UPS/Fed Ex etc.
You know if this store ships with normal post also?

I found this site http://www.dutycalculator.com/ that calculates import duty + VAT on goods. No idea if its accurate or not & a lot of the time we can get stuff without paying any additional charges but at least it will give people an idea of what they may be liable for if they do get pinged by customs

Rakuten is a market place with indivudual shops a bit like Amazon and how goods are shipped can most of the time be agreed with the shops.

Last night I placed a small order through Rakuten. From what I understand, they forward my order onto the shop who are selling the stock, and then they will calculate the shipping costs and get back to me with the final price. My question is, do they email your 'personal' address, or do they email you via your 'my Rakuten' Reason being, I can get Rakuten to work ok in english, but cannot access 'my Rakuten' in english?

It'll mail to your personal address Paul.
Received an email from the shop asking me to confirm my order with the new total inc. shipping - I just fired back an email reply as confirmation. Guess it's sit back, wait for the tracking number and UK taxes etc... once in the UK. How do you pay the import/VAT etc... if applicable? Do they contact you before delivering in the UK?

Assuming you haven't paid, they should now mail you again with an invoice.

From there on, it's wait until you get your EMS tracking number, and then you can obsessively track it's progress as many times a day as you like. With any luck, yours will come as quick as mine did.

Import duty is normally payable on delivery.
