I know that bass have been few and far between over the last couple of months, here in sunny Wales. But twice in the last week, while surfing, I've seen Cormorants working near the rocks and catching plug sized baitfish. Surely there must be fish there, it's just a case of finding what makes them take ? And if it's not bass, there should be something feeding on these tasty treats, other than the birds !

Mike last week a 6lb & 1.5lb bass were caught on bait off my local beach. So I think there are still the odd bass or three knocking about, just harder to find.

Hi Mike.
Where I am,I would not expect to see a few bass until march-April.
Don't let that dishearten you!Bass (a small percentage)stay off our
shores during spawning-migration.Cod wrasse, coal fish, sea trout and so on
are still only a rod distance away.Enjoy!

Mike, at the end of last season Simon Lewis and I were fishing in disgraceful weather, awful water clarity and yet we were outnumbered 3-1 on our mark by cormorants. I am sure there must have been bass there too as earlier in the year we had seen (at the same mark!) bass tail-slapping on a bait ball where the cormorants were feeeding - typically just out of casting range!
