...since my last confession.
But you see, the thing is a good friend of mine has secured a rod salmon fishing for he coming season on the local river and has invited me to join him. Now as much as I've enjoyed saltwater plugging, this is something I've always wanted to do but have never had the opportunity or finances.
My initial thought is to go at it 100% while the oportunity is there but I have zero experience and was looking for some guidance. Have a rod but reels, lines, flies and technique need to be added!
Help!!

Salmon fishing, careful mate- I have know people to lose their marbles over trying to catch salmon.

Much as I hated the stuck up old fart, read everything you can by Hugh Falkus. As his book of salmon is really good starting point.

Might be able to get it from the local libary.

Flies, techniques etc will depend on which rivers your planning on fishing and time of year.

Jezzasnr, if you can afford it and you've always wanted to do it why not go for it. I love my lure fishing and have so much to learn but am also on a waiting list at a local fishing club to have a trout membership so I can get some fishing in close to home when I dont have time to visit the coast. I'm hoping that a few of the techniques I'll be able to cross over at some point and then somewhere along the line progress upto SWFF.

Been watching some dvd's from a guy called Hywell Morgan who teaches locally, hes advised me to have some casting tuition with him to start with before I get any kit so he can tell me what will suit my lack of style and ability :D sounds like good advice so I dont waist my money on inapropriate gear, and to get the fundamentals right. I think the idea then is to practice before booking him for a guided session on my local river. Just waiting for this weather and my bank balance to sort itself out then we'll be away.
