I made a mega late decision to fish this evening - so much so that it was very almost dark when I got out there. Knowing I'd be out after dark I picked a mark that I knew very well, with easy access. It was also a little more sheltered from the current swell. I've not fished much in the dark before so it was a good learning experience. Just to make things a little bit easier the moon was bright, despite the thick, thick fog.
I played with a couple of diving lures to start, but knowing the ground so well (pretty much every little rock in the whole area!) I was soon on an ayu XLayer (5g jighead), bouncing it back across the (mostly sand) bottom.
For 20 minutes or so around 10pm I think I really had things sorted. Playing with a retrieve I've never used before after a few casts I hooked and landed a bass of around 3lb. A couple of casts later I felt a tiny tap on the drop and struck in to a baby pollack. The next cast I hooked but lost another bass. Again the bite was just a quick bang on the drop.
After the period of heightened senses and extreme concentration I was back to normallity and not fishing quite so well. Weird how that happens.
