A friend of mine was in St Malo over Christmas and bought me a copy of Loup et Bar Dec 2009/Jan 2010 and Peche en Mer Dec 2009 (good bloke). I thought you might be interested in some of the contents.

The Loup et Bar magazine has a 6 page review of 40 new lures. Alleluhah. Floating, suspending (steady the 2Ks) and sinking. Actually they are not all "new", some are smaller versions of existing plugs, relaunches of old designs etc, onto the French market. But some nice looking stuff, hope they do soft plastics in the next edition! Also the new Sakura Mazzera rods, 7 models between 6.8ft and 8ft with the shorter rods having longer tips like the Tenryu Injection. VSS-KN real seat (think Morethan Branzino) and Gunsmoke SIC rings. Yum.

And articles on: finesse fishing with SPs; drop shotting for difficult fish;lures made from real fish skin; choosing between hard and soft lures; responsible fishing; and so on. I love it.

I'm still hoping to do some more rockfishing, so an article on metal vibration lures in Peche en Mer more than justified its price. It also had articles on; John Dory on lures and bait; vertical SP fishing for maigre (24kg); the differences between jigging and vertical fishing; interview with a La Rochelle charter skipper; loads of good stuff.

Anyway even if you are not a francophile these French mags are worth their weight in gold. You can learn more from one page than a years worth of certain other angling magazines. I know **** keeps them on the counter for his customers to browse over their coffee. If I see anything that warrants sharing I'll happily translate the gist of it on here, respecting copyright and all that of course.

PS. I laughed when I saw the name of a new rockfishing lure featured in Loup et Bar called the Bottom's Eye, which I am sure must mean something else to the French and Japanese! I'll check with my proctologist. Oh the irony.....

I wish I could speak French. Why do we have a mountain of carp magazines with absolutely anal amounts of detail, fly magazines that are well presented and informative, coarse magazines to promote all the usual egos with a bit of useful info added but when it comes to saltwater fishing we have a plethora of adverts and the least information possible?
I agree completely with Paul, I can learn more from looking at the pictures in one French or Japanese magasine than reading our saltwater magazines for a whole year. And with the weather as it is I would really appreciate a good read!!!!

Paul, got a couple of the peche en mers from **** on a visit over, good look through on the boat on the way back, such good pics and upto date info, keep meaning to subscribe just for the visual elements. Im prepared to scan and translate a whole mag, if needs be. That would be a good thing with online mags, translation etc. The images that some can muster is mind blowing, wish I could sometimes have the patience to think about the photos before just clicking away. Got a new camera for crimbo, got a quick macro demonstration off **** on saturday.

I can translate them no problem at all, I'm just a bit concerned about copyright. I think if I give the gist of an idea that should be OK? Anyone interested in metal vibration lures? Time on my hands - not working this week so will probably be stir crazy by lunchtime.

I wonder if they would be interested in a skishing article Keith?

Paul: if we could get something out there, maybe the skishing.pdf article.
Translate it into French and send it to them maybe, I don't know. I'm sure those
French Bass nuts would find it interesting.

Just to remind you guys that if you are going to Nantes you can subscribe to a few magazines there, we do every year. I sent Lewisman a couple of french mags I had laying round in the shop yesterday, I think if a few of us subscribe it would be cool if we could swap or send a few to each other if we meet up etc.
