I once saw Matt Hayes catch a carp on a strawberry and someone else using peanuts.

Strawberry, yes, quite uncommon at the time I'd guess.
Peanuts ?, very widely used and misused bait unfortunately for years.

Weirdest bait I've used, silkworm cocoon's for a fish known as a Scardola ( Italy/Austria border area )
Very hard fighting freshwater fish, hit and dive vertical like wreck Pollack. Snap poles if you weren't careful.
