Hi Simon,

I simply brought it in with the rod tip slightly above the horizontal, then wound to catch the slack, while the lure rested a little and came toward the surface. I had to adopt this technique as where I was fishing was very snaggy and full of weed. It was the only way I could assure I missed the snags other than try using a popper.

Hi mark,

First ever, only got into it this year, done other types of fishing and lures in rivers. Got into it as my 11 year old wanted to try lure fishing, so got the initial gear for his birthday, Now we have his boxes of lures and my boxes of lures lol.

Only been out 4 times, went out last Sat afternoon to the same beach different spot, 4 nice bass cruising about on the surface, but not interested in any lure or style of retrieve

Hats off then sir, makes the capture all the more special with it being your first! My first was only a little schoolie of maybe 1lb, but I remember it so well.

Careful though, slippery slope from here - just have a little look in the thread 'Show and Tell' for a glimpse at how bad some have got it!

Excellent Jon, the first one is always the most difficult. Great size for your first as well, I bet you can't wait to get out there again.
