I thought I would post a pick of my first attempt at a handcarved nude lure.

It's a new design aimed at fresh water cod and hopefully salt water Jewfish might take a liking as well.

Not a great finish but not a complete fail either, hope the lure folks like it. fbs nude.jpg

Looks great.

How did you make the bib? How are you attaching the hooks for something big like a Jewfish?

more questions than answers!!

Hi,
Body is just under 4 inches and bib is a bit over 2. FBS 2 nude.jpg

Guitar Pick in shot for size, this lure wont see water but the other ones have a slow wide action which moves a lot of water and you can keep it in the strike area a long time because it just needs a slow retrieve. Fortunately this one can also be blasted back in as well without pulling out of the water. Got lucky on the design. :-D

Thanks for taking an interest.

The hook hangers are 200lb+ stainless steel.

Don't know if I can do it in time or even if anyone is interested, but I wonder if these would work on the species you gentlemen chase.

My lovely Scots wife (I have the bruises to prove it) has relatives coming next week and may be willing to post a lure or two when they get back home.

These ones struggle down to 3+ metres floating but I can adapt them for about 1.5m floating with the same action. Because I'm short on time finishing another batch, I can probably finish two in time for their brief Qld visit. If anyones keen let me know, would need a report good bad or indifferent though.

Shayne,
Nice looking lure there, loads of good targets in Aus. (murray cod to barra and mangrove jacks) for those specs. Would be very handy for some north shore river fishing!!!
Never heard much about targeting Jewies on hardbaits though, thought most guys were using soft plastics for them??

Hi Dave,
Up 'til now I've used live baits and large soft plastics to score Jewies, but I still think this may do the job. If this doesn't I have another variation made from a different timber which behaves a little differently which I think will work. Next winter will tell.

Good for you Shayne,
for getting out and trying something new, really hope your lure is as successful as you hope on the Jewies. Please let us know when you beach your first Jewie on you own plug-that would be pretty cool.

I will also give some lures to 2 blokes I know who are specialists, so I'll give it a good go, thanks for the encouragment though.

I tried a reply which disappeared ????? I am having a dollar each way, giving lures to 2 Jew specialists and we will see what happens. If it comes off you'll hear me from your house.

Ha it's back.

I am suprised that I got away with an offer of free lures and no takers though. No probs I'll see if the wifes rellos fish.
