I currently have a Van Stall VSB 100 and I am looking to buy another but cannot decide whether to just get the VS 100 (without bail arm) I would be interested to hear how easy it is to become accustomed to use . And any hints on where to get the best bargains from would be a great help

Hello Alan,
I have the VS 150 bailess , took me about half hour to adjust not having a bail .
Mick has VSs the cheapest in the uk at i think £500 TSF next month will advertise for him
20 minutes tops to adjust.

Bail arm just gets in the way.

Alan that is a beast of a bass in your avatar.
It was over 13.5lbs I did not have scales on me had to use a BASS measuring tape I will tell where I caught it if I can get a deal on a Van Staal

Yeah right, how about if I do you a deal on a set of scales......
if you have scales that will not rust give an accurate reading on a boat and do not need batteries I may be interested
Maybe a B.A.S.S tape then mate. I personally use a tape and a set of electronic scales, the weight of a fish isnt of huge importance to me and I am sure it is not to alot of us, its just nice to have a rough estimate. Scales are one of those love or loathe things eh, again I wish there was a set that set the standard so to speak, like Bogas do in the lip grip world.

As you say a rough guide for me although when you get a big fish sometimes it is nice to get a true picture before returning it
as a few others have said getting use to a bailless reel takes 20-30mins tops, you'll either love em or loave em,

good bass by the way

Hi. I bought the van staal vs100 s. Thought the lack of a bail arm might cause some problems, but soon got used to it and the fact that it is lighter is the better option for me, I wont go back this is the reel for me, As for the price i bought this reel in the states about 400 dollars or so,had business there so it was the ideal opportunity.

Only thing to watch out for is when you use another reel with bail arm , after using bailess you can have a few embarassing moments.

Thanks for the advice I probably go for the bail less version this time. I recently serviced my Van Staal with one of their kits I used up most of the lube what alternative lube can I use instead of buying their own lube
Kev is the guy to ask about lubes.

He'll chip in later on no doubt.

Not sure about the warranty if you self service with alternate lubes though.
Lubes.

Sorry just use the lubes supplied with the self service kit, But sure there are plenty of altenatives.

Michael.
thanks I have been told you cannot buy the grease/lube seperatly from the Van Stall service kit I will see if Kev has any ideas
