A small gang of us went to our winter bass mark today as the conditions seemed right, but when we got there it was very calm, with bright sunshine, normally this wouldnt be that big an issue in the summer, but in the middle of winter, it was not the right conditions. We needed, movement with white water and cloud cover, over cast or something!!, the water was cristal clear, which is not a problem but all these things together, just no good for this location.

The two bass that did hit today, which i didnt land by the way, certainly made us work for them, one was lost at my feet which looked to be around 5lb and fell to the Rudra and the second fell to a soft plastic ( shudder bait ) which i didnt see.

here are a few photos from the day.

Glad you guys got out, Cars still snowed/iced in. Would kill for a couple of hours with a chance of a bass.

Nice photos Nath, but i do think you need a few tips from Henry.
What a cracking day's fishing, it's a shame the bass didn't what to come out and play, but you were right every thing was against us.
There's always next week.

Nathan, looks lovely there to me - sorry the conditions weren't right for you. Better than ours today - we had some action on the water, but the water was way too dirty to have any confidence. At least you saw some fish! Well done for getting out - looks lilke a good crowd you had with you today!

Just an absolute pleasure to be out and about on a day like yesterday - ok, so conditions coould have been a whole bunch more effective for bass, but it was great fun. Some serious chat about a lot of different lures.................honestly, it makes me feel a lot better about my own "problem" when other anglers open up their lure boxes and show me what they've got. Perhaps my "problem" isn't as bad as I thought it was. Or am I in denial ?

Ben especially has obviously got a wonderful degree of self-control when it comes to shiny new lures. As has Steve. And Andy. So have I. Ummmmmm.......

Great day allround. Kind of difficult since we knew odd fish were there, even in the bad conditions - hard to know what to try next. Always nice to have the odd shiny lure chat, and the fact that my addicition was only slightly above 'average' on the day leaves me happy that I am almost normal. :bangin:

Can also confirm that that Grauvell rod is something VERY special!! Very impressed Henry!! I think I had a dream last night (seriously) that when I borrowed it we forgot to switch back! :badlol:

Almost forgot to mention that I DIDN'T blank!!!

I spent 4 hours locating the shoal but when I finally did, this beaut' couldn't resist (humping) the Flash Minnow. The hooking position suggests that the fish were a little finicky, but after a brief tustle I beached her on a wave.

That is the whole reason for going Henry, I agree. Fish are just an added bonus really for me. Especially so in winter.

Nathan,

As Tim has stated, you and others would be very welcome visitors to the Welsh coast, I am sure between Tim and Simon they will come up with a mini meet soon, then maybe we could visit your area as well :D
