Thought we’d try the North Coast of Cornwall today, so i got in contact with a good friend of mine up that way, to find out if a mark we both knew was still fishing. He said, that he had already had a few, over the last couple of days…so the North Coast it was.
We all met down on this particular mark ,myself, Robert (my father) and Ben. First impressions the sea looked quite coloured which already put me on the back foot but it didn’t take long though to get my confidence back after Ben got off the mark with a Bass to 1lb and half, small i know but just what we wanted to see to start our day off.
Not long after that I got hit by what i thought was a U boat as my Rod Bar was bent double, I knew straight off this was a very good fish as the reel just screamed off line, after about 4 minutes of not seeing the fish, she decided to show herself about 40 yards out, at which from that distance Rob shouted that it looked like a Double figure Bass. After another short length off time i finally get her to my feet, but there was alot of swell the side that i decided to land the fish, which was to be my down fall as if i listened to Rob i would of landed her. I thought i could pull her up the rock not really realizing how big she was, which resulted in one of the hooks on the Treble being straightened out by the weight of her. We estimate her weight to be around 8lb. I got told off by my father for losing the fish and told off from Ben as he wanted to photograph her, and I just felt really sick at what i just lost.
Not long after and Rob was into a nice 4lb bass which put up a teriffic fight caught on a Tide Minnow surf
Not long after Rob had his i finally landed a good fish also to the same weight as Robs bass, my fish hit me as i was about to bring my Rudra out of the water, I learnt my lesson from the bass i lost earlier and thought to myself i will play this one to the beach area where we can get to the bass far easier, which i did, it still took me 10 minutes to land it due to the bass using the current to make it as difficult as possible for me.
