As a recent convert from bait fishing for bass to lure fishing for them i know i have alot to learn.I think one of the most important things to learn is about conditions and the right methods to suit the conditions. so i would like to ask all you experienced pluggers . We will take it as a given that half light at dawn/dusk is the killer time, and pretend that the mark allows for surface and diving lures
1.when you arrive at your chosen mark, what are your dream conditions?
2. what do you do if its flat calm and sunny, clear water (surface/sub surface)
3 what do you do if its flat calm and cloudy, clear water (surface/sub surface? )
4.choppy and a bit coloured.?
5.rough and very coloured ?

just wanted to try and get a few pointers as i have spoken to people who say you wont catch in such and such conditions only to see posts from people on here doing just that........

Fishfordinner,
1.clear water and either high or low tide, a gentle wind offshore having just switched from onshore.
2.Surface lures WTD(smaller sizes, worked gentlely) then smaller more natural colours.
3.Pretty much same as above, with some more brightly coloured lures maybe.
4.Larger surface WTD lures, and small/medium poppers, bright coloured lures, lures with louder rattles.
5.Larger poppers, larger lures, and lures with stronger actions, and rattles.

in 1 and 2 I would also try soft plastics, pale naturals in 1 and darker colours in 2.
For me it would be number 4
while i agree dawn and dusk do seem to be the most productive time or should i say an hour before sun up and an hour after sunset would be more accuate
however my best fish seem to come in the last hour before low water and the first hour of the flood no matter what time of day it is
hope this helps dai

EDIT Sorry i misread your post that'l teach me to reed them propally[spelin]
i will go back and try again dai

Second try see if i can get it right this time
1 Choppy and a bit coloured [i kid you not]
2 Usually a shallow diver natural colour or a soft plastic sluggo etc jerked back in or possibly get a drop shot rig out with something like a one up shad
3 WTD type lure super spook, cormoran doggy jerk, etc natural colour or as above
4 As above but in a brighter colour or black some times a deeper diving plug will be better depending on terain being fished
5 Big poppers any noisy bright coloured lure in the box
Put this together with my last post and it may help
cheers dai
