Well I was wondering if anyone on here has gotten their hands on a Sakura Rookie, I think both MrFish and Padge have been selling them. They seem to be getting good reviews on the french forums, and from MyFish. So has anyone handled the 9'6"??? or the 8'6"??? What did you think???

Oh and if anyone can tell me how long the handle is from where the reel seats to the butt end, I would be grateful.

as sakura always has a longer grip distance with the longer rods...

hi tun,bought the 8 ft 6 off mr fish,lovely bit of kit.havnt used it yet but the action is perfect for what i can see.roughly 15 and half inches from butt to reel seat,cheers daz

I think (probably wrong!) that the 9'6" has the same grip/reel seat arrangement as the 8'6". If it isn't a rude question how much was the Rookie??

If it's in any way similar to the Shukan then the 9'6" rod will have a handle that is 6" longer than the 8'6" - meaning that the actual fishable rod length is only really 6" longer if that makes sense? Not 100% sure if they carried that through though?!

From memory the 8' 6" has a shorter handle configuration.

Much better balance overall.

The 9' 6" is a cracking rod but I much prefer the 8' 6"

Yeah I was exspecting a longer handle configuration, but the details I have found seem to say there is the same handle on both the 8'6" and the 9'6".
But I will wait until someone can tell me.

Got both of them here in 8'6" , I am hoping that the 9'6" Rookie has as short a butt as possible, two reasons, one it would make the effective length of the rod longer and secondly the butt is less likely to get in the way when working lures.
Might have to wait until MrFish is back at the office, then ask him to have a look.
So anyone used the longer Rookie????

Tunny, in the catalog they say, the shükan in 8.6 and 9.6 are different in the dimensions of the butt/grip, the rookies are described like this:
CLES 0808604 ROS 862 LR - MH 8’6’’ 2,58 Medium Heavy 1/2 -13/4 15-50 8-20 Fast 9 B
CLES 0809604 ROS 962 LR - MH 9’6’’ 2,92 Medium Heavy 1/2 -13/4 15-50 8-20 Ex. Fast 9 B

the B stands for their equal gripsection. But you are right, with this extreme long grip you are loosing effective rod length.

The 86 Rookie is 18" to the top of the reel seat, I have measure it to the top of the seat as the bottom peice is the bit that screws up. The 96 is 21 and a half inches from the butt to the top of the rel seat. So when the two rods are held side by side with the reel seats together the 9ft6in is actually only 9 and a half inches longer than the 8ft 6in.

Hope this helps. Oh and of course the prices of £135 and £150 is a delivered price.
