Anyone used the above named reel ? I don't know why, but i am drawn to them . . . . . . the idea of them being beefed-up seems to appeal to me. Any real-world experience of them in here ?

Some friends of mine use them, it's a very sturdy reel indeed, but I would rather go to the 3000 version because it's lighter will sufice for seabass fishing, of course if you target bigger species, the 4000 may come in handy.

Summing it up, it's a very well made reel, smooth, nice drag, and reliable (and on top it has no anti-reverse clutch, which is one less thing to go boom with the use :lol: )

i've been looking at these, and think i'll treat myself ready for the summer.
had a quick fiddle in Veals in Bristol. They certainly feel smooth & solid enough & look to be pretty robust which is one of the main things for me.
The shimano site lists the 4000 as 5g lighter than the 3000 ??

I think they are a bit more of a mans reel rather than a tarts, if you know what I mean. Being a tart though I prefer the Technium range, dont know why, because the Saragosa's are sound.

EDIT; And thinking about it a Stradic is in the same kind of money league, and you get the nice bail arm with the Stradic.

See the posh new shape of the one peice bail arms, no where for the line to catch.

And the older version, on the Techniums, Saragosas and many other Shimanos

If you are not careful the line can trap and result in the a groove which the line falls into on ever cast

are these new bail arms as spare parts interchangeable in the same shimano sizes to older modells? Lets say I buy a new saragosa 4000 bailarm will it fit to my TP or technium 4000 ?
How much is one and where can I get them new ones?

A braver and more skilful man than me might fill that join with some hard epoxy or chemical metal then polish it down?

I've had that very same issue on a Daiwa that i bought for Luke earlier this year. It's not a spinning reel, it's called a Regal or something, and it only cost about £40, but it's only been used with mono, so just looks like a 'not man enough for the job' scenario to me. Cheap materials.

I havent had that problem with my Technium so far.

Just reading back through some of the threads on the site and saw this one and happen to have my 4000 Saragosa and 4000 Stradic on the desk beside me. The Saragosa is the new toy and hasn't see too much use just yet but first impressions are slightly bigger and heavier than the Stradic and with a slightly slower retrieve. I just took a quick snap of the two reels so you can see what I mean about the size difference. The Saragosa certainly feels quite a smooth yet robust reel, unfortunately it doesn't come with a spare spool like my Stradic I can't help wondering if the 3000 might have been a little more suitable, size and weightwise but a lovely reel all the same.
