I've been a good boy this winter as far as spending my pennies goes but with the new season almost upon us I just couldn't resist a couple of new toys :muttley:.

Andy, good choice on the vulture, that colour is ''spot on'' for daytime fishing!

Dan, remember a daylight session for me starts at sun up.

If you look at that vulture carefully it is mostly transparent apart from the spot and the brownish paint on its back.

That is why I am going to experiment with my other favourite lure, the bay ruf manic, with the paint scratched off to make it transparent during these particular sessions. This was discussed on another thread.

I've been meaning to buy a second Vulture for a while now and when I saw a post of yours singing the praises of that particular colour I couldn't resist.

I haven't caught on my Mullet version yet but the bass showed enough interest in it last year to convince me that it's definitely got potential :).

Andy, all my fish on that particular colour were indeed daytime fish not single one in the dark. I know that you are a night lure angler most of the time, like me , but if you get the opportunity for a daytime session give it some water time. I have also noticed that the fish most of the time will miss it on the first swipe , stop the lure and give it a couple of twitches they will return and you hook the bass on the second swipe.

Apart from this monster on a 90mm Angel Kiss I've never had any luck on colourless lures

I've got this Sammy in Lake Murray Clear with the black spot so maybe I should give it some more water time this year.

I usually get at least an hour of daytime on a mark first but I'm never confident of catching before dark, now that I know which lure to use in daylight though and how to use it I'll be hopeful of doing better.

    Andy ,

I have a Xorus Frosty that was once a 500g colour , I had it that long the paint started peeling of , so I striped it down of what paint was left and it is now transparent . I use that lure on some nights and it slays fish ! I also have Patch 140 in the same condition and that also catches fish when other colours don't .

Very interesting Gary, I've got a couple of lures which are starting to lose their colour so I might give them a helping hand. I've never tried my clear Sammy at night as I tend to stick with more solid colours but I'll give it and my more subtle ghost coloured lures a go this year.

Fascinating stuff Gareth, it goes against the grain for me to deliberately wear the colour off lures but I do have 1 older Ruf Manic which might be a candidate for the sandpaper treatment.

Excellent work Tom - the first picture of subcutaneous fat to be featured on TLF (or highly likely any fishing forum for that matter!).

Maybe a Show and Tell of wounds and injuries is required?

The candy coloured vulture is my go to surface lure at night, the darker the better. I've just replaced mine after loosing it in a crack off:eek:
