Its late october and the water is beginning to chill down ready for the seasonal change which you encounter every year. The light levels are descending as you approach the banks, the sandeels have moved off and you are forced to engulf yourself in the shallows on the peaks of the sandbanks where the water is warmer. Above you there are silhouettes, moving quickly and restricting your light. You drop off into a ridge on the bank to lessen the effect of the shapes that are now directly above you.

As quickly as they appeared they go, you rise up over the ridge and are forced to kick harder as the tide is beginning to ebb and the warmer shallows are fast becoming a turbulant ride. Your head is kept down and spines retracted to maintain speed as you forge a wake through the oncoming mix of tide and loosened kelp.

In the distance a shrimp has lost its momentum against the flow and is being swept towards you, the vibrations trigger you to move suddenly left and with your spines now extended you sweep over. Ahead there is a series of wrack covered boulders, you lie behind them with the now fast flowing water creating a vortex behind you. With your position now corrected you await the prey as it is coming to you, by force but welcoming.

The vibrations increase as it closes in and with a swift kick and lightning head move it has gone, a warm feeling engulfs you from your throat to deep inside. Before you have time to enjoy this sensation you move to the right into the flow and the true power of the ebb slaps your face with its un-relenting anger. Moving past the boulders you encounter a patch of mixed ground containing a wedge cut by the tide. Another vibration forced this move and it is tormenting you with its irregularity, you lie against the wedge as the vibration gets closer. The light has all but gone, all remains is this sound that fills the shallow water columns that forces you into the flowing ebb and into full speed as you attack the prey which is bumping the sandy bottom towards you.

Wthin one powerful lunge you are onto the prey, you clamp down onto it and an unusually sweet shock explodes in your jaw. You shake to engulf and it is pulled from you, rising up to the surface and away. Agitated you follow it, expelling precious energy which is ignored for this sweet shock that now forces you into a frenzy. As you approach, its signature becomes evident, the vibration has gone. But what remains is a long partly ribbed slivering shape being drawn against the flow, a spot of colour depth allows you to target it halfway and as you break the surface its yours once more. A moving light nearby concerns you as you take the prey down deep away from the dazzling annoyance.

You kick with immense clarity as you try to swallow the prey which is now motionless and the sweetness dispersed, your head is forced round with an unknowingly pull and you are being twisted against your will. You release as you propel with the tide away from the prey as it surfaces once more. You are a BASS! and the sweetness was different...
