Well the time has finally come for me to retire the cheap little Wychwood reel I have been using for the last few seasons. I have a budget of around £150-200 for a reel and spare spool, after alot of reading and reasearch im seriously considering a Lamson Konic mainly for its drag and spool release mechanism being the same as on their top end reels as well as its reported durability.

As there is always more out there than you can know about I would be interested in anyone elses thoughts or recomendations for a #8/9 SW suitable reel in that price bracket?? I know im asking a fair bit at this money but I will not be going beyond that.

Cheers, Marty

marty, if you can still get one, a teton tioga, had mine for about 12yrs, real good workhorse, it's been dunked, dropped, god knows what else, it's even handled albies and boy do they run some line off ya,you could also get them in large/small arbor.

Unfortunalty Jim much as i would love a Dani and know how excellent they are by the time i add a spare spool im looking at near twice my budget (£350 best ive seen) and i simply can not afford or justify that at the min. The reported durability on the Konic was from reading several american SWFF guides impressions on them after using them as client reels for several seasons, youve got me thinking now...... Have you heard bad things about the Lamson out of interest? Always good to have the full picture for sure.

Sorry to confuse matters but i have 2 lamsons a konik and a lightspeed. I can't recomend them highly enough, great value, durable, low maintanance and great drag system, if your looking at a new one they are pretty much scratch proof too. I have owned them both for about 3 years and have had no trouble when using them here for bass and in the tropics, u can dunk them in the sea and sand but they just keep goin, no problem. The drag system is stunningly smooth on light and heavy settings even compared too reels twice the price (abels/sage i have owned both).
Go for the Lamson it will out last anything(IMHO).
Hope this helps.
