The Sloopy Droopy , my variation on an original pattern by Joseph Manette
Hook: Gamakatsu SC`15 3/0
Thread : White UTC 140
Tail: whiting rooster saddle feathers ( white)
Underwing: white bucktail
1st Top wing: yellow and grey blended Bucktail
2nd Top wing: olive and lavender blended bucktail
3rd top wing : sparse black or dark brown bucktail topped with peacock herl
Eyes: JC
Flash: Mirage flashabou and copper flashabou , dna holofusion olive
This pattern is a particualr favourite of one of my main customers . it has accounted for a lot of fish
takes a while to tie because of all the hand blending of the bucktail but the end result is worth it
I tie this in two sizes a medium-6" and a large -8 "
It is a superb representation of an estuarine baitfish
Step1: Hook in vise and a good thread base
Step 2 : tie in a tail support of bucktail .. fanning it out across the hookshank before tying it down tight
Step 3 : tie in the first of the tail feathers , the 1st one is the longest on top of that tie in four stands of mirage flashabou .. doubling it up and tying four strands down each side of the hook shank
Step 4 : tie in two more tail feathers ... tidy up the butt end and add a drop of varnish
Step 5 : tie in the first underwing of white bucktail
Step 6: tie in the first top wing of bucktail ( blended yellow and grey ) note the proportions for blending
Tie in four strands of mirage flashabou doubled up
Step 7: Tie in the second underwing of white bucktail ..and add a drop of varnish
Step 8: on top of the 1st top wing tie in some olive DNA holofusion ,tie in the second top wing of lavender and olive blended bucktail ,
Step 9: on top of the olive nad lavender tie in four strands of copper flashabou doubled up , tie in the third and final underwing of white bucktail and tie in the last top wing of brown/ black bucktail , top off with peacock herl
Step 10 : add JC eyes .. all done
easy peasey lemon squeezy
the colour blends make this fly what it is ...deadly
The wet profile
happy tying
