Not really an issue untill you start to look at reels like Stella's and Saltiga's.
I have used my spinning reels for tuna, even on yellowfin up to 20lb, still only need about 1kg of drag/300 meters of 15-20lb braid.

its only at the upper end of serious SW stuff that drag potential is an issue
but take my little stella 1000FD as an example
its marketed stating that you can extract up to 8kgs of drag
WTF? why?
no 1000 sized reel needs that amount of drag, but its capable of it
personally i'd prefer they determine a way of measuring and quantifying smoothness of drag systems
thats much more important, especially in light/finesse situations
