Anyone else agree with the thinking that, while your out plugging, if you can find feeding mullet the bass wont be far away.

Sssshhhh !
Generally yes. Estuaries definately yes
Certainly seen them mixed together whilst snorkelling.

Safety blanket for the bass??
Mike,
No telling them about our secret Mullet mark!!!
Or our "special" techniques, got to keep some secrets :muttley:

But yes I agree, I often find larger (over a pound) mullet in the same areas as bass. Although if I can find plenty of small mullet-then I will be very very happy.
the sandy beach i have bait fished for bass for 5 years and had plenty of nice fish, has shallow gulleys which as the water fills them you can see dozens and dozens of small mullet 3-5 inches moving along in 8 inches or so of water.Needless to say having taken up lure fishing in october i will be plugging these gulleys this summer once theres 3-4ft of water in them.............cant wait.

The sneaky buggers slope along just at the back of the mulllet shoals, maybe for company/safety if they are lonely, but I doubt it.

Allegedy they use the mullet as cover and swoop out and attack unsuspecting bait fish who are expecting no more than a threatening pout from a confused thick lipped.
