Rolfe, thanks for the reply, Gilthead Bream have been populating the South coast for the last number of years from Wexford up to West Cork, not sure about the West Coast but I have no doubt their range is expanding. They like estuaries/beaches and they are found in the same locations as Bass and Sea Trout. They tend to shoal in small groups so you can catch a few in quick sucession before the shoal moves on. Bannow Bay,Dungarvan Bay, Cork harbour Ring in West Cork etc etc all hold good stocks. They are weather dependent, settled weather is a help, rainwater coming down the estuary drives them out.Your comment about opening up a treasure chest is very true and exciting, You could easily target Bass as well as Giltheads on the same patch of ground. On LRF gear they would give a superb fight. Pound for pound they fight better than Bass. It will be interesting to see how this species affects the Bass population considering they are competing for the same food source.
exciting times:-D
