These are used extensively in Freshwater Angling Alan, in a whole variety of sizes and differing rig mountings. I don't know anyone who has used them in the Salt, but there must be?

They "can" be fished weedless' using something like SG's 4 Play Weedless Hooks, matching different sizes hooks to different eels etc.

Have had the ol' previous passing idle thoughts on some sort of weedless tandem rig, for the bigger bodied eels, but have never got round' to doing anything about it.

Alan Mads of Savage Gear shows how to rig them semi-weedless in that video. He leaves the hook point exposed as he feels it's better for pike but you can go fully weedless if you wish. I recently bought some real eels for pike but haven't used them yet. I just need to find a decent venue...

"Semi" dont' really cut it' though Walter. Good in certain circumstances. All well and good and yes there is certainly a use.

But when true "weedless" is the aim, something like as described (although the 4-Play hooks are not specifically designed for the eels) are worth a thought. Somewhere there was a vid advising adapting the eel body by grooving it with a sharp knife to assist in hook presentation/function etc.

There's the ol' long body/bite short thing to contend with though, bound to get some of that.

(Eyes glaze over)........A weedless tandem rig........now there's the way to go.

Stop Alan! Too much info. I can nay take it Captain. Seriously though the smaller sizes could be worth a try rigged weedless for bass. Get your point though. Bit like my query on Spring Dawgs. If people are missing takes without the treble it must be the same or worse with the Real Eels. With the possible exception of the new smallest 15cm version. I haven't tried mine yet so I'm afraid it's all speculation on my part.
